ONE MONTH TO GO!

2b5cf4374ff3bc670f2f674504e7f0baGuess what?  It’s time to start looking for your walking shoes, dusting off your music stand, and checking the weather forecast.  That’s right – it’s exactly ONE MONTH to go until Rydal begins!

Here’s the final letter, in case you haven’t seen it in the post.

THE GENIN ORCHESTRA

61st YEAR!

RYDAL HALL

Dear Orchestra Member,

It’s time to send you the final details and timetable for this year’s course at Rydal Hall.

Please arrive during the afternoon of Saturday 30th July. For those staying in Rydal Hall, you will be able to come in from 4pm, and tea and cake will be served in the entrance hall.  I will be in the hall to meet you from 4 o’clock in the afternoon.  The first evening meal will be at 6.30pm.

Our first evening rehearsal starts in the Bishop Bulley Barn at 7.45pm.

Remember to bring your instruments, music stands (labelled) and if you have access to a set of orchestral or chamber music parts then bring them along.

If you have any special dietary requirements (allergies, vegetarian, lactose intolerant etc) then let me know so that I can pass this on to the kitchen.  Also, if you have any other requirements then tell me so that I can make arrangements with the hall wherever possible.

I will need to send the final payment to Rydal Hall by the 16th July at the latest, so if you haven’t paid in full yet then please do so as soon as you can.  The different tariffs are shown in the table below.  Details of how to pay can be found in the table below.

For those staying in the hall, it would be helpful if you could let me know whether you are opting for full board or dinner, bed and breakfast, so that I can ensure that I give the kitchen the correct numbers for meals.

Also – this year, afternoon tea is an optional extra, so please let me know if you would like to take this option.

I have enclosed the timetable for the week for your information.

I’m looking forward to seeing you again on 30th July for another wonderful week.

Best wishes,

Jane Edwards

Can you actually hold a violin?

Or any orchestral instrument?  If so, we still have some availability for Rydal this year.  But be quick!  The course starts on 30th July 2016.

If you’re interested but can’t commit for the whole week, don’t worry.  You’re welcome to come and have a taster rehearsal for no charge.  Or you can just pass by and have a listen.  Feel free to get in touch with us here.

If you’re already planning to come, it’s time to check your strings / reed / mouthpiece, and pay your deposit (if you haven’t done so already).

The countdown has begun.

Exactly 4 months to go!

The date? 30th March.

The daffodils? Out.

The days? Getting longer.

It’s spring!  And it’s also that time of year when the Rydal Orchestra course starts to fill up with eager musicians.  If you’ve already reserved your place for 2016 then you should hurry up and pay your deposit.  And if you are interested in coming along for the first time, now is a good time to get in touch to express your interest.

Numbers are very healthy but we can accommodate more strings and brass this year, as things stand.

If you’re still on the fence, have a look at this previous blog for some reasons why you should consider coming along.

You can have a taster session if you don’t want to commit for the whole week.  Some more details are here.

So strike while the iron is hot!  Here’s how to get in touch.

We hope to see you there!

Five reasons why you should join The Rydal Genin Orchestra

musicians_washing_line_1_1904885If you like visiting the Lake District and you enjoy playing orchestral music, The Rydal Genin Orchestra might just be the residential music course for you. Here are five reasons why you should consider coming along next year:

  1. The location is AMAZING! In the middle of the Lake District, with beautiful walks all around, staying in a stately home. Pretty villages, culture, history, babbling brooks, waterfalls, ancient trees, hills, wildlife. It’s all on your doorstep.
  2. We play music! Lots of it, and with plenty of variety. See here for what we played in 2015.
  3. Everyone is very friendly. Some of us have been coming here for 50 years or more, and others are brand new. Last year we ranged in age from 6 months to well over 90, and people come from all over the UK.
  4. There is no pressure. We don’t do concerts and we don’t penalise mistakes. We are all about enjoying the music.
  5. The weather is INVARIABLY PERFECT! OK – that one isn’t true. But it really doesn’t matter. If it’s sunny you can go outside. If it rains you can play music, read a book, drink coffee, eat cake, watch tv, visit National Trust properties, shop, sleep, go to the cinema, or whatever you like. Usually we have a mix of weather types, so just bring an umbrella and enjoy it.

If you’re interested in finding out more, have a read through our website and feel free to get in touch. Our next course starts on Saturday 30th July 2016.
