Rydal 2025 is nearly here!

It’s nearly time!  Here are the final details for the Rydal Genin Orchestra 2025…

Conductor

I’m pleased to report that Leo has recovered from last year’s problems and is match fit; it will be lovely to have him back on the (new and improved) rostrum

Timings

We are meeting in time for dinner at 6:15pm on Saturday 23rd August, and disband after breakfast on Saturday 30th August.  Residents in the Hall can check in any time from 4:00pm on Saturday afternoon

Dinner will be served at 6.15pm each evening.  A tradition is that gin will be taken from 5:30pm on the old croquet lawn (or in the Library if the weather is inclement).  If you wish to participate, please bring as exotic a gin as you can source and a shot glass

The first rehearsal will be in the Bishop Bulley Barn at 7.30pm on Saturday 23rd August; a full schedule for the week is here:

Music

I’ve seen Leo’s provisional list and can promise you a terrific week!  I’ll tease you by telling you we’re going to do two wonderful sixth symphonies.  The full list will be posted on the notice board

Checklist

Please make sure you bring your instrument, a music stand, and a stand light if you require it.  The weather in the Lake District is changeable(!), so you will probably need some warm clothing.  We will keep the Barn as well-ventilated as we can during rehearsal

Health and Safety

May I remind you that the path from the Hall to the Barn is uneven and slippery when wet, so please bring appropriate footwear

Labels

To help new members get to know old hands, I’ve printed name labels; you’re not obliged to wear one, but I think it’s helpful.  If you took home your label holder from last year, please remember to bring it back

Non-residents

Rehearsals for non-residents are priced at £10 per rehearsal; please arrange to pay me in cash, or by transfer to the building society account.  Non-residents may join us for evening meals, but this needs to be arranged in advance directly with the Hall

Parking

Parking is free for residents, but non-residents will be required to pay a £10 per day flat charge.  This seems a bit steep, but I know a lot of you are sharing accommodation so perhaps you can share lifts too.  Please let Reception know when you arrive for the day.
